BodyFocus Top Ten Tips for Exercise

1. Be clear about what you want to achieve and chose to do an activity which will help towards it.

2. Try a variety of activities before you decide which activity or activities you want to do on a regular basis.

3. Make sure you choose a regular activity or activities that you enjoy.

4. If possible, try to keep your chosen activity local to where you live or work.

5. Make sure your chosen activity is led by a person who is suitably qualified.  Some key questions to ask are:

are you qualified to teach this class activity?
how long ago did you qualify?
do you have a first aid certificate?
do you keep a portfolio of your updates?
do you hold public liability insurance? (insures the building and people in it - anyone can get this)
do you hold professional indemnity insurance? (insures the instructor and protects the client (YOU) - only qualified teachers can get this)

If the reply to any of these is ‘NO’ - take care!

6. Start with a little and build up gradually.

7. Initially go for time – not distance.

8. Set small goals, try not to do everything at once.

9. Keep a record of your activity so that you can measure your improvements.  You may want to record day, time, activity, duration, how you felt.  If you’re trying to lose weight, you may also wish to record weight and measurements on a weekly basis.

10. Talk to your GP and/or Practice Nurse about your activity.  If the activity works for you, it could work for someone else.

Just
half an hour a day
of moderate intensity physical activity
will help to keep you healthy!

OR

10,000 steps a day

And this is just the minimum – you can do more!
